Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Classification Under Review

The Material Handler will provide a multifunctional roll within Supply and Distribution performing a variety of duties to ensure the hospital acquires and maintains the required supply, delivery and inventory management within a computerized environment (i.e. SAP). The incumbent must be an effective communicator (verbal and written), provide excellent customer service, and demonstrates the ability to work closely and cooperatively with others within the hospital setting. From picking items out of the warehouse, to be able to operate a tugger, putting away supplies on the wards, delivery of specimens, medical records or distribution of linen. This person has excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skill, able to work independently with minimal supervision and manages their time efficiently.

Experience

  • Previous experience with warehousing, receiving, stocking and storage, linen, and distribution of supplies, pickup and deliver mail and specimens is desirable.
  • Provides regular updates and communication with other staff members within and outside of the department including but not limited to Regional Laundry personnel.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Additional courses in logistics or inventory management an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
  • Medical terminology course.
  • An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Recognized and in good standing forklift license required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) with the ability to learn new computer operation systems (i.e. SAP, etc.). Working knowledge of SAP is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a good command of English (oral and written skills).
  • Problem-solving skills required as well as the ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service skills. Customer service courses and/or seminars preferred.
  • Respectful of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds of staff, patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure with competing demands while providing efficient service delivery.
  • Conscientious, organized and excellent attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in math with the acquired skill to perform simple mental math equations required.

More than 8,000 staff, physicians and volunteers care for patients. Highly-skilled interdisciplinary teams provide complex, specialist (“tertiary”) acute care, including diagnostic, outpatient and inpatient services to adults and children across Manitoba, north-western Ontario and Nunavut.

HSC is a Shared Health facility, and is Manitoba’s provincial tertiary centre for trauma, transplants, burns, neurosciences, complex cancer care and pediatric care. Every clinical hospital-based service available in the province is offered at HSC, with the exception of cardiac surgery and eye surgery. This means the majority of Manitobans’ tertiary care is provided here, regardless of which community our patients call home.
