Compensation Details

  • UX/UI Designer 18 : Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver.

Team Overview As part of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility team within the People and Culture Group, the UX Accessibility Advisor will play a pivotal role in ensuring that EDC’s digital platforms are accessible to all users. This role includes promoting inclusive design principles, evaluating digital assets for compliance with accessibility standards, and providing expertise to product and project teams to enhance inclusive design knowledge across the organization. The successful candidate will work in a matrix environment and will partner with diverse stakeholders including CX and UX practitioners, Product Owners, Developers, Business Analysts and supporting roles to enhance EDC's unauthenticated and authenticated digital experiences. This position will be instrumental in making EDC’s digital offerings more inclusive, ensuring a seamless experience for all users, including those with disabilities.

What you will be doing:

As the UX Accessibility Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring that EDC’s digital experiences are inclusive and accessible to all users, adhering to international standards and best practices.

Your Role Will Involve The Following

  • Support defining and scaling inclusive design with a focus on digital accessibility, ensuring alignment with EDC’s enterprise design and digital standards, customer experience vision, and government accessibility mandates.
  • Support digital projects, channels and initiatives, including defining accessibility-specific design milestones in product roadmaps and program plans; champion a shift-left accessibility approach across the organization.
  • Mentor, coach, guide and empower designers and partner teams within the CX CoE to build inclusive user experiences and to increase expertise within the team.
  • Collaborate with designers, product owners, solution architects to embed accessibility early in the software development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of a global design system, embedding accessibility into the design kit to drive adoption across all products and services.
  • Collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers, product owners and other cross-functional partners to support digital product and channel design, providing subject matter expertise and acting as a sounding board.
  • Translate standards, including the CAN / ASC EN 301 549 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), into understandable deliverables.
  • Provide actionable recommendations for design, content and front-end code that align with inclusive design standards.
  • Support the evolution of UX research, establishing accessibility practices as part of the research and testing lifecycle to increase quality, compliance and improve accessible experiences.
  • Partner with other teams within the CX CoE to embed accessibility needs as part of user personas to support organizational understanding and build empathy of users.
  • Support the development and rollout of a UX specific accessibility training curriculum to upskill UX practitioners, making up to date knowledge and resources available to designers, researchers and strategists.
  • Serve as an inclusive design Subject Matter Expert (SME), monitoring industry trends and fostering awareness of best practices.

What we are looking for:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in UX digital design and research, with a minimum of 4 years in inclusive design.
  • Completed undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Advanced level understanding of disability-related issues in digital accessibility, and of accessibility standards including WCAG 2.1/2.2, CAN/ASC EN 301 549, and proper use of ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications).
  • Demonstrated experience in guiding enterprise teams to plan, build, and deliver accessible solutions that reflect inclusive design principles across web and across responsive web experiences.
  • Understanding of accessibility requirements across different types of disabilities and assistive technologies.
  • Experience supporting teams in designing and implementing accessibility requirements as well as resolutions to existing issues.
  • Experience working with accessibility research platforms such as Fable Engage.
  • Effective relationship-building, communication and influencing skills with the ability to drive consensus among diverse stakeholders with diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to effectively convey complex digital inclusivity concepts to both technical and non-technical cross-functional audiences.
  • Solid critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable managing shifting priorities, and tight deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Adapt professionally to change and support others through transitions.

What Will Make You Stand Out

  • Digitally savvy with proficiency in Figma (required), experience working with Dovetail is an asset.
  • Experience in accessibility testing, supporting QA teams, is considered an asset.
  • Experience writing HTML, CSS and Javascript would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in agile methodologies and with agile planning tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira would be considered an asset.
