NOTICE OF NON-UNION VACANCY

Position: Success Coach for Indigenous Students

Location: Catholic Education Centre

Salary Range: $67,647 to $71,208

The above assignment will commence August 25, 2025. The term of this appointment will be in effect until June 26, 2026 and may be subject to renewal.

The Graduation Coach Program for Indigenous Students is a targeted program that will provide intensive support to Indigenous students and their families with the goal of seeing each student achieve credits, graduate, and successfully transition into their chosen post-secondary pathway. Under the direction of the Board and school administration, the Success Coach will provide school - embedded culturally responsive support and address service delivery gaps to facilitate the engagement, well-being, and academic achievement of Indigenous students.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, families, system staff, and community resources to identify systemic barriers and develop meaningful solutions to support the engagement, well-being and academic achievement of Indigenous students
  • Work with the program’s core team and school staff to create a career path/goal setting for identified Indigenous students who will benefit from targeted supports
  • Work with board and school administrators with respect to all data related matters of inclusion, and in particular to data that supports student success while maintaining student confidentiality
  • Facilitate access and referral to academic supports and community resources to provide integrated support systems for Indigenous students
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with Indigenous students through a strength-based approach
  • Act as a trusted mentor and advocate to Indigenous students
  • Create a welcoming and culturally responsive space to build a sense of community and belonging for Indigenous students that will enable them to voice their experiences

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma, with two years of experience in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the Board
  • Comprehensive lived experience deeply rooted in local Indigenous communities is an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of systemic barriers and challenges that Indigenous students face in the education system and in the wider community
  • Demonstrated understanding of strategies and indicators to support Indigenous students to achieve credits, graduate and transition successfully into their chosen postsecondary pathway
  • Demonstrated respect and understanding of the diversity and composition of Indigenous communities
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience to identify barriers and design appropriate interventions to increase the well-being and academic achievement of Indigenous students
  • Deep understanding of youth culture and the principles of youth engagement
  • Knowledge of local community resources and the ability to support students and their families to access and navigate these resources
  • Broad understanding of an inclusive approach to relationship building with diverse stakeholders in the community and in schools
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization including external partners
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build consensus in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Preference will be given to Indigenous people who hold qualifications and have experience in educational settings.
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel
