About The Training And Development Coordinator Role Reporting to Director, Research and Programs, the incumbent will lead the development, implementation, and improvement of various Office of Research and Innovation’s (ORI) engagement initiatives, including building awareness of EDI best practices. The incumbent will embed EDI principles into ORI training modules for faculty researchers, ORI staff and Student Research Assistants. The incumbent will champion key data-driven initiatives designed to support equity, diversity, and inclusion objectives, create new student support programs, and build the ORI capacity for applied research. The incumbent will oversee key training projects and events throughout the year. The incumbent will lead additional training initiatives that continue to support and maintain a supportive, inclusive, and accessible training environment, for faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent will also create, develop, and implement an international student strategy through the new mentorship program.
Key Responsibilities
- Training and Development Support
- Conduct training needs analysis, program development, vendor selection, program delivery and program evaluation actions
- Support trainers and training coaches in the execution of the training programs
- Provide input into the development of the annual training catalogue
- Review existing training material to determine appropriateness and relevance, modifying where appropriate to satisfy training needs
- Work with Resource Manager to develop and deliver new hire training, new employee onboarding, and professional development programs to ORI staff
- Work with managers and research leads to identify learning challenges, instructional problems and new educational needs
- Manage training program logistics such as printing materials, enrolments, cancellations, waiting list management and attendance records
- Facilitate training sessions when required
- Collect metrics on training for the purpose of evaluating effectiveness of training programs
- Support the development and delivery of specialized programs such as orientations and training events
- Continuously review and enhance training delivery methods, including the use of technology-driven approaches
- Works closely with the Director, Research and Programs on budget for training and development initiatives. Ensures that limited financial resources are maximized to achieve milestones outlined in grants.
- Development and Administration of Mentorship Program
- Ensure the provision of seamless advising and mentorship services to students
- Lead the development and implementation of a student mentorship program that ensures student researchers receive necessary supports for achieving success.
- Will create clear expectations and targeted outcomes for the purposes of recruiting student mentors
- Will create a clear pathway for students to enroll and achieve success in the mentorship program
- Must be able to evaluate student entrance assessments to make decisions that match students with suitable mentors.
- Incumbent will be responsible for addressing issues that may arise in the course of mentorship delivery, including those relating to student behavior, attendance and performance issues, liaising with both internal and external supports as needed
- Coordination of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Initiatives
- Lead inquiry into EDI best practices in applied research in order to build awareness and examine systemic inequalities.
- Manage the development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement of EDI practices within ORI
- Lead activities/events to support the strengths/diverse needs of ORI staff, faculty, and students
- Participate in Humber workshops/meetings and external committees relevant to project subject-matter, and to engage in professional development opportunities to ensure knowledge is current and up-to-date.
- Develop and implement targeted EDI training program within ORI
- Assessment and Continuous Improvement
- Devises strategies to develop and maintain effective systems for gathering student input, assessing programs and services, and reporting on data
- Develop and implement quality improvement processes to improve programs and services operations.
- Maintain a current registry of assessed and preferred vendors
- Track feedback received, funding of training programs, and changes in the organization that result in updating current training policies, procedures, and programs.
- Work with ORI’s knowledge dissemination team to intentionally promote training and workshops equity-deserving groups

- General University Degree
Experience/Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field
- Sophisticated understanding of post-secondary /higher education and today’s diverse student population.
- Demonstrated work and/or lived experience and commitment to working in a diverse, equity focused environment that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion
- Demonstrated effectiveness multi-tasking competing priories
- Superior research and writing skills
