UCA is looking for a full time Construction Site Coordinator position. This is an on-site position in our Scarborough location.

WHAT’S THE JOB ABOUT?

Reporting to the Director, UC Access, the Construction Site Coordinator plays a pivotal role in overseeing the daily operations of field teams while ensuring effective collaboration between on-site and office-based personnel. This position involves managing schedules, coordinating resources, and resolving any operational challenges that may arise. With a strong focus on leadership, problem-solving, and communication, the Senior Field Technical Coordinator will ensure that projects are executed smoothly and deadlines are met.

Some of the work you will do, but not limited to:

  • Manage daily site operations, supervise Field Technicians, and ensure projects are completed on time and within the defined scope.
  • Plan work assignments and allocate tasks to each technician, ensuring timely and quality project completion. Conduct pre-installation inspections, oversee construction activities, and ensure all work meets project specifications and quality standards.
  • Evaluate contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, cost-effectiveness, and adherence to safety and quality standards. Maintain strong relationships with external vendors to support project success.
  • Proactively identify potential risks and issues on-site and implement solutions to minimize delays and ensure the smooth execution of projects. Provide immediate troubleshooting of Automatic Door operators, electrified door hardware, and access control systems as needed.
  • Organize and lead project meetings with internal teams, contractors, and clients to ensure clear communication, timely problem resolution, and alignment with project objectives. Provide regular updates to the Director, UC Access, including project milestones, risks, budget tracking, and other key developments.
  • Review opening schematics/wiring diagrams/elevation drawings/floor plans and ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Manage and track labour hours, prepare quotations for each project and change orders.
  • Maintain and analyze project-tracking data, generate forecasts, and compile reports using contractor management software (e.g., Fieldwire, BIM 360, Procore, CX-Alloy).
  • Respond to service calls, including after-hours and weekends, to ensure client satisfaction and project completion. Support client communications and ensure that client needs are met in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with fabrication tasks, including Sip tray fabrication, cable fabrication, and modifying or creating necessary brackets using power and cutting tools. Support on-site crews during staff shortages, performing hands-on installation and system setup as needed.
  • Assist with inventory management, including UCA inventory counts, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient supply chain operations.
  • Travel to multiple sites within a single day as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO HAS:

  • Certificate or Degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or civil engineering
  • 3 – 5 years of experience working in the electronic technical department
  • 3 – 5 years of experience working in construction industry
  • Proven experience in managing field operations, technicians, or similar roles in construction, access control, or related industries.
  • Strong technical knowledge of access control systems, automatic door operators, electrified door hardware, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient in using project management and contractor management software (Fieldwire, BIM 360, Procore, CX-Alloy).
  • Ability to assess and solve complex on-site issues quickly and effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with clients, contractors, and internal teams at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Flexibility to respond to after-hours service calls and assist in hands-on project tasks when necessary.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and work in a face paced environment
  • Understanding Ontario Building Code is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office, especially in excel and visio
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Our work encompasses projects in all sectors of the building industry: hospitals, office buildings, hospitality, civic, condominiums, custom residential, and retail spaces. We have also been involved in specialty projects such as casinos, airports, theatres, computer data centres, police buildings, primary and secondary schools, and universities.

Upper Canada Specialty Hardware Limited provides installation services for commercial projects through Upper Canada Installations, a local 27 Union carpentry registered company. As part of our services, we also have a 10,000 square foot facility to pre-install hardware on both hollow metal and wood doors. Doors are delivered to site complete with the majority of hardware installed, saving valuable time and creating more efficiently executed applications.

We have a sister service company, U.C. Access Ltd.. This organization provides consultation, supply, installation and service for power door operators and electric hardware applications. Standalone card access systems are also supplied and installed. UC Access also offers complete security consulting services for clients and applications.
