About the role
The Opportunity:
ML6 is proud to partner with a forward-thinking energy solutions company in their search for a Financial Controller. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a finance professional eager to play a pivotal role in driving innovation, financial strategy, and operational excellence within the emerging energy industry. The successful candidate will work closely with the executive team to strengthen internal controls, improve process efficiencies, and build scalable financial systems that support long-term growth.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Partner with executive leadership to shape financial strategy, identify growth financing opportunities, support corporate funding needs, and mitigate financial risk.
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes. Reconcile corporate balance sheets and provide accurate, timely reports to executive stakeholders. Oversee compliance with provincial and federal tax regulations.
- Manage cost accounting functions and ensure accurate inventory tracking processes. Develop systems to optimize cost control and improve operational efficiency across business groups.
- Ensure all payroll activities and statutory deductions align with current legislation. Provide guidance on compliance with employment and tax laws.
- Support the rollout and adoption of ERP systems to enhance financial data integrity and streamline business operations.
- Document and streamline financial processes with a focus on automation and scalability. Identify opportunities to reduce costs and enhance organizational productivity.
- Assist in the preparation of annual financial projections and maintain monthly updates to track performance against forecasts.
- Approve outgoing invoices and follow up on outstanding customer accounts to ensure healthy cash flow and financial health.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA designation
- 10+ years of experience in financial and cost accounting
- Proven track record of process optimization and ERP implementation
- Deep understanding of tax compliance and financial controls
- Strong knowledge of inventory and cost management in a technical or industrial environment
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement
