The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and professional Bylaw Enforcement Officer to join our Protective Services team. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with municipal bylaws and fostering community awareness through education and enforcement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Investigate complaints related to municipal bylaws (e.g., noise, parking, property standards, zoning, animal control)
- Conduct inspections of properties, businesses, and public spaces
- Issue notices of violation and compliance orders
- Educate the public and provide exceptional customer service
- Maintain accurate records and prepare reports for enforcement and legal proceedings
- Collaborate with other municipal departments on enforcement issues
- Represent the District in court, presenting evidence and providing testimony
- Serve legal notices on behalf of the District
- Support the Director of Protective Services in preparing council reports
Required Qualifications:
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years of enforcement-related experience
- Completion of Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills – Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills
- Physically capable of performing duties in various outdoor conditions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and database systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in paralegal, court, or investigative procedures (or willingness to obtain)
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, 8-hour shifts, Monday to Friday
- May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work
- Position falls under the CUPE Local 2979 Collective Agreement
- A Criminal Record Check is mandatory
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $43.69 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
