About the role

Reporting to the VP, Communications and French Language Services, the Manager, French Language Services, is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering French language communications that support ACU’s strategic goals and commitment to member-first service. This position is responsible for implementing and overseeing the end-to-end translation lifecycle of high-impact documents—such as financial, legal, and marketing materials—while ensuring adherence to quality, consistency, regulatory compliance, and brand guidelines. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Scope, schedule, and manage translation and localization projects across departments, ensuring timely delivery of French-language materials aligned with business needs and timelines.

  • Implement quality control processes to ensure all translations are clear, accurate, culturally appropriate, and compliant with regulatory standards. Proactively identify and mitigate linguistic or reputational risks.

  • Act as a central liaison between departments (e.g., legal, marketing, finance), managing workflows and approvals to ensure clear, coordinated communication in both official languages.

  • Establish and maintain linguistic standards, glossaries, and translation memory tools to ensure consistency across all French-language outputs. Identify opportunities to streamline translation workflows.

  • Manage relationships with external translation partners or freelance resources as needed, ensuring quality, timelines, and budgets are maintained.

  • Track project progress, document revisions, and delivery timelines. Provide regular updates to leadership and contribute to reporting on French language service performance and impact.

  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of sensitive or proprietary information.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, French Studies, or a related field and/or equivalent in experience

  • Project Management education or certification (e.g., PMP, CAPM, or Agile methodologies) is a strong asset.

  • Training or coursework in compliance, finance, or legal terminology is considered an asset

Key Occupational Skills:

  • Bilingual Proficiency: Demonstrated fluency in both French and English, with a deep understanding of grammar, syntax, idiomatic expressions, and language structure in both languages.

  • Strong Writing and Editing: Ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-structured content with meticulous attention to spelling, punctuation, and grammar in both languages.

  • Cultural Competence: Sensitivity to cultural nuances and regional variations to ensure translations are contextually appropriate and effective.

  • Subject Matter Knowledge: Familiarity with specialized terminology in areas such as finance, governance, and marketing; ability to research unfamiliar concepts to ensure accurate and meaningful translations.

  • Quality Control: Skilled in proofreading and editing to ensure linguistic accuracy, consistency, and adherence to organizational style guides; experience with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools is an asset.

  • Time Management: Capable of managing multiple translation projects and meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and accuracy.

  • Collaborative Communication: Effective at working with internal teams and stakeholders to clarify context and intent, and open to feedback to continuously improve translation quality.

  • Experience working in bilingual, member- or customer-focused organizations is a strong asset.

Location & Work Environment

This position is anticipated to be fully remote or hybrid role. Employees on a hybrid work arrangement will be required to be in-office at least one day each week. Attendance at in person meeting would be an expectation irrespective of the work arrangement. There is the potential of infrequent travel required to locations across Manitoba to support organizational needs.

This role will be a full time position, 37.5 working hours per week, Monday to Friday.
