Schedule:
Twice a week (e.g., Mondays & Thursdays), 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST, with a break from 10:30–11:00 AM
Compensation:
$80 per 3-hour session (includes a 30-minute break), ($320 paid bi-weekly)
Total Duration:
7 weeks (14 sessions total)
Description:
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable instructor to teach data science, ethical web scraping, and beginner AI in a semi-private virtual setting for junior high students.
This is a project-based, exploratory program focused on helping students:
- Use real-world data (e.g., social media, product sites, public datasets)
- Clean, analyze, and visualize data using Python
- Understand correlations and patterns
- Build beginner-level recommendation tools (like Netflix-style systems)
- Explore fun "hack-style" skills like inferring location from social media using public data
Classes run twice a week for 3 hours (with a break) and should balance hands-on coding and guided exploration with project-based goals structured into a curriculum.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging Python lessons tailored for preteens
- Introduce scraping tools (e.g., BeautifulSoup), data wrangling, and basic ML concepts
- Help students build real mini-projects (e.g., movie or snack recommenders, dataset analysis)
- Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and responsible data use
Qualifications:
- Proficient in Python and libraries like Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-learn
- Experienced with web scraping (e.g., BeautifulSoup, Selenium) and public APIs
- Strong communication skills; able to explain technical topics to youth
- Teaching or mentoring experience (especially with gifted or neurodiverse learners) is a strong asset
