About This Position About the Faculty of Continuing Education
Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education has provided high quality education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 75 years. Serving more than 30,000 students per year, we offer a suite of Ministry of Advanced Education-approved programs (occupational programs in massage, personal fitness trainer and funeral education; academic upgrading; and our Transitional Vocational Programming), over 60 programs and 350+ courses to support professional and personal development in a wide range of topics, and our Conservatory (which offers a broad range of music and speech arts programming). Our courses cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to business, technology and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.
About The Role We are seeking instructors interested in contributing their expertise to teach in the following program: Transitional Vocational Program over the fall and winter semesters.
Courses
- Work Prep. I - Fall 2025 (Sept. 1, 2025 - Oct. 7, 2025) M-F 9am-4pm
- Work Prep. II Winter 2026 (January 6, 2026 - March 10, 2026) Tuesdays, time TBD
- Work Prep I and II - Students will learn about work readiness skills including and not limited to planning for work, interview skills and learning styles
- Academics II Winter 2026 (January 5, 2026 - March 23, 2026) Mondays (*Tuesday, March 17), time TBD
- Students will increase their ability in reading, writing and communication skills. Additionally, this class will increase their ability to manage your money and plan for your future, financial security. Skill and ability improvement is targeted on an individualized basis.
Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments to determine student levels and progress
- Instruct classes using appropriate curricula geared to the students’ individual learning styles and abilities.
- Grade assessments and provide detailed feedback to students
- Manage classroom dynamics to ensure each student is learning to the best of their abilities.
- Utilize creative and innovative methods to promote learning of course materials and learning outcomes.
- Access the course daily (must have reliable internet service throughout the entire period of the course)
- Reply to student inquiries within 24-48 hours
- Adhere to MRU and Faculty of Continuing Education policies and deadlines
- Maintain regular contact with the administration team
- Participate in instructor meetings with the administration team as required.
Qualifications
- 3-4 year Bachelor's degree; Bachelor of Education, preferred.
- Skilled in modifying instruction to meet student needs.
- Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
- Experience using computers and technology as a teaching tool, specifically the Google Platform.
- Experience with formative and summative assessment.
- Ability to apply curriculum in an individualized and challenging manner.
- Proven skills in classroom management.
