Carlson Construction Group is on the lookout for a Project Controls Specialist to join our dynamic team! In this role, you’ll support the Project Controls Manager in delivering excellence across some of the most exciting heavy construction projects in the Lower Mainland.
Based in North Vancouver, with occasional travel to job sites, this opportunity is perfect for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and has a strong background in project controls for complex infrastructure projects.

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Project Controls Specialist, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our projects stay on track and on budget. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing project controls policies, procedures, templates, and tools
- Advising on project controls strategies to support successful execution
- Mentoring project staff on best practices
- Reviewing contracts, defining scope, and building Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
- Creating and maintaining detailed schedules using MS Project or Primavera P6
- Performing cost/resource loading and generating resource histograms
- Tracking progress, updating milestones, and maintaining accurate schedules
- Establishing cost baselines and mapping estimates to the WBS
- Uploading budgets into the ERP system and assigning cost codes
- Preparing and updating project cash flows
- Monitoring incurred and committed costs and identifying variances
- Supporting Project Managers with Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates
- Maintaining risk registers and participating in change management
- Producing Project Status Reports (PSRs) with EVM, productivity metrics, and KPIs
- Identifying and communicating trends, delays, and cost overruns
- Assisting with delay analysis and claim documentation
- Contributing to project history records and lessons learned
What You Bring to the Table:
- At least 5 years of experience in project controls on major construction projects
- Proven success with various contract types (e.g., Lump Sum, T&M)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Primavera P6
- A degree in Engineering, Accounting, or a related field
- Strong understanding of scope, cost, schedule, change, and risk management
- Experience with claims and substantiating cost/schedule impacts
- Ability to build and maintain effective project control systems and reports
