This position is responsible for overseeing the operation of the Inmate Trust Accounting System including, analyzing monthly financial statements, maintaining sufficient profit margins, preparing Unit budgets, cash flow and variance reporting.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Experience in full cycle accounting with accounts receivable and payable, balancing deposits, general ledger reconciliation, financial statement preparation and reporting as well as processing expense and mileage claims

  • Experience performing clerical and administrative duties, including filing, preparing correspondence, data entry, and processing mail

  • Experience providing excellent customer service, including responding to financial inquiries and providing direction that adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant policies and procedures

  • Experience working as a team leader that contributes to a respectful workplace

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and work under pressure to meet high volume deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve conflict

  • Ability to take initiative and make independent decisions with minimal supervision

  • Ability to complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail

  • Excellent English verbal communication skills

  • Excellent English written communication skills

  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook

Desired:

  • Experience with the accounting program SAP or equivalent software
  • Familiar with the General Manual of Administration (GMA), Financial Administration Manual (FAM), Procurement Administration Manual (PAM) and the Manitoba Government Employee Union (MGEU) Agreement
  • Completion or partial completion of a professional accounting designation and/or formal accounting education from a recognized institution

Duties:

The Accounting Clerk is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Correctional Centre financial services at the Headingley Correctional Centre.

The incumbent is also responsible to be fully conversant with the Trust Accounts function in order that the institution be able to operate during periods of absence of the Trust Account Clerk as well as providing needed assistance during peak periods. Under the guidance of divisional management, the Accounting Clerk assumes responsibility for the financial supervision of all financial services at the Headingley Correctional Centre.
