The Role

The Senior Underwriting and Operations Specialist plays a critical role in supporting underwriting operations and broker services. This position is responsible for mentoring a team that manages support services, including the processing of non-automated transactions such as endorsements, cancellations, and other policy changes.

The Senior Underwriting Services and Operations Specialist ensures service excellence by coordinating day-to-day operations, optimizing workflows, and supporting the maintenance of contracts and facilities with insurer partners—such as Bordereaux reporting and special underwriter referrals.

As a Senior Underwriting Services and Operations Specialist, you will champion a culture of service and performance, empower your team to deliver results, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Your leadership will be key in helping us drive innovation, support our brokers and underwriters, and enhance the overall customer experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads and supports the execution of complex policy maintenance activities—including endorsements, cancellations, registered letters, extensions, and premium processing—ensuring adherence to sound underwriting principles, policies, and controls.

  • Provides guidance and oversight to team members in managing in-force policy transactions and escalates complex or sensitive cases as needed.

  • Oversees the completion of monthly reporting, ensuring accuracy and timeliness; triages and resolves carrier inquiries and coordinates with internal stakeholders to address issues proactively.

  • Partners with Underwriting to manage and triage individual risk referrals outside of delegated authority to insurer partners, including Lloyd’s and domestic carriers; provides oversight and quality control on submissions.

  • Leads internal underwriting review activities and supports third-party audits by establishing and implementing procedures that meet underwriting, regulatory, and compliance requirements; ensures team alignment with regulatory and industry standards.

  • Monitors and maintains tracking systems for payables and non-payment cancellations; ensures data accuracy and visibility for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Liaise with third party adjusters and brokers on claims.

  • Provide our brokers with great service through all our engagement channels.

  • Optimize workflows to streamline processes in an effort to promote efficiency and effectiveness

  • Ensures a high level of service delivery by coaching the team on response protocols and deadlines for internal and external stakeholders; personally handles escalated or high-impact issues.

  • Acts as a subject matter expert and mentor within the team, identifying training needs and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across Underwriting Services.

  • Performs additional leadership duties as required, contributing to operational excellence and team development.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5 to 7+ years experience in an underwriting support role

  • 1+ years of leadership / mentorship experience considered an asset

  • Property & Casualty (Personal Lines) industry experience is required

  • Commercial industry experience considered an asset

  • Industry certifications (CIP, CRM, etc) considered an asset

  • Working knowledge of the underwriting processes and insurance terms and conditions.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Sense of ownership and pride in your performance and its impact on the company’s success.

  • Experience successfully building relationships and facilitating conversations at all levels.

  • Customer service, interpersonal, teamwork, analytical skills and detail oriented.
