About this role:
As a Crematorium Operator & Funeral Director Assistant at Westlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery located in Edmonton, Alberta, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to families during their end-of-life journey by providing support to Funeral Directors in all aspects of funeral services. As Crematorium Operator, you will oversee and perform all aspects of crematorium operations, ensuring the utmost dignity and respect for the deceased.

Job Type: Full time, Permanent
Key Qualifications and Demonstrated Abilities:
- Experience working as a crematorium operator would be an asset but is not required.
- Computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- A valid driver’s license is required with a clean driving abstract.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- A team player, with a positive attitude and the ability to multitask and set priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail with a consistently high level of accuracy.
- Good communication skills, verbal and written.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional customer service with compassion, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor at all times, reflecting the dignity and respect of the funeral profession.
- Exemplifies Arbor’s values of integrity, trust, teamwork and excellence.
Responsibilities:
Crematorium Operator:
- Performs all crematorium duties in accordance with Arbor’s Crematorium Operator’s Manual.
- Maintains crematorium by ensuring that all areas are swept, washed, dusted, vacuumed and disinfected.
- Completes all necessary paperwork and maintain storage system of all cremated remains.
- Places casket in the cremation chamber through loading device, sets cremation chamber and monitors cremation process to ensure a complete cremation.
- Processes and packages cremated remains into containers and ensures all containers are identified accurately.
Funeral Director Assistant:
- Greeting and assisting families upon their arrival at the funeral home.
- Assisting with removals, transfers of decedent to the funeral home or crematorium as required.
- Assisting with the preparation of various rooms, during visitations, various rituals, funeral services, burials and any other related tasks.
- Driving funeral vehicles when required by the funeral home.
- Performing general building upkeep and ensuring the proper maintenance of funeral service vehicles including washing, interior care, cleaning, polishing, general vehicle maintenance including scheduling and service care plans.
- Other duties or special projects as required.
