Detailed Overview:

Under general direction, provides clinical and educational support to respiratory therapy staff and perform related Respiratory Therapy duties. Supports clinical practice standards according to hospital and professional guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements and evaluates educational and clinical programs to meet the learning needs of respiratory therapy staff including orientation, clinical teaching and inservice. Develops and reviews instructional materials. Maintains program records.
  • Participates in the performance and skill assessment of staff. Develops skill assessment programs. Certifies staff in specialized skills.
  • Acts as a clinical role model and resource for staff and division in the area of expertise. Participates in educational and clinical audits. Participates in Quality Improvement projects as a leader, facilitator or team member.
  • Participates in the development, communication and evaluation of standards, procedures and protocols. Participates in selected Respiratory research activities. Facilitates changes in Respiratory practice.
  • Conducts education, workshop and conference sessions. Presents ideas at rounds, workshops and conferences.
  • Participates in patient education initiatives through review and development of instructional materials and individual or group teaching.
  • Communicates and consults with other educators. Acts as a clinical resource to community hospitals and agencies.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines in providing institute wide education programs. Participates in developing an annual education plan. Participates in clinical committees and councils.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care credentialing exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).

Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Level C. Possession of and maintained Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Completion of an instructional program for teaching, such as an Instructional Skills Workshop.

Three years' recent related experience in a regional referral trauma or tertiary care facility.
