Job Summary

The Program Coordinator assists in the implementation of Tree Canada’s National Greening Program (NGP), with specific focus on monitoring and survival assessments. Under the direction of the Restoration Ecologist, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all survival assessments for the National Greening Program, ensuring they stay on time, budget; obtaining contract signatures; booking contractors; and assisting in problem solving. The Coordinator is assigned to specific projects such as the Province of Quebec, and assisting with Indigenous focused programs/projects. The Program Coordinator is a valued member of Tree Canada’s NGP team and works collaboratively with NGP and Tree Canada colleagues regularly.

Areas of Responsibility:

Coordination of NGP Audits and Survival Assessments (50%)

  • Administer NGP third party audits of all tree planting projects across the country.
  • Coordinate with Forestry contractors, consultants and auditors for years 1,2 and 5 project survival assessments. Ensure accurate communication, invoicing and record keeping.
  • Plan and administer any re-plants, ensure proper data, files and record keeping are accurate

Project Coordination and Administration (40%)

  • In collaboration with the NGP Program Manager, ensures proper project administration and implementation and provides support to the NGP Team
  • Coordinates with contractors, and auditors to ensure appropriate upfront planning, due diligence and successful monitoring of past and upcoming large-scale tree planting projects
  • Assists with reviewing final reports for projects; prepares internal reporting documents, and updating Salesforce project records
  • Reviews for accuracy, invoices for signing by NGP Program Manager, advises on discrepancies for region
  • In collaboration with the NGP Team, assists in identifying and meeting with new partnerships as needed
  • Ensures site level performance metrics (including planting targets) are achieved
  • In collaboration with the NGP Program Manager provides financials for accuracy and adherence to budgets

Increase Tree Planting Projects in Targeted locations (10%)

  • Assists in meeting Indigenous planting targets across the country
  • Provides support to Indigenous policy development
  • Represents Tree Canada at specific program launches and/or partnership meetings
  • Participates in conferences/trade shows specific to Indigenous partners
  • Assists in meeting Québec planting targets
  • Identifies sites and opportunities in this region with a multi-year outlook.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge, interest and/or field experience in conservation, environmental sciences and/or forestry
  • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous rights, governance and historical context is an asset
  • GIS experience and interest is an asset
  • Ability to create and present the National Greening Program to a wide range of audiences.
  • Experience with project coordination/administration and coordinating multiple and simultaneous projects on time and on budget
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders including municipalities, conservation authorities, not-for-profits and the private sector
  • Detail oriented and organized with a demonstrated client-focused mindset
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills (verbal and written) in English and French
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team in a collaborative and fast paced environment
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency with, GIS Software (ESRI, ArcGIS Online), MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams); knowledge and experience in Salesforce and OpenWater is an asset
  • Respect for the values and differences that all members of a small team bring to an office environment; adaptable to different approaches and flexible to move in new directions
  • Commitment to the work and values of Tree Canada, in particular a passion for the environment and a belief that organizations and individuals can and do improve lives by planting trees and addressing climate change

Education and Experience

Post secondary education in biology, forestry or natural resource management or a related field is an asset. Minimum 2-5 years experience working in project management or administration in a not-for-profit organization is desired. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
