Job Summary:

The Universally Accessible School Nutrition Program (UASNP) is funded by the government with the goal of ensuring that no child goes hungry during the school day, helping them focus better, learn more effectively, and succeed academically. The RETSD Nutrition Program provides free and healthy supplemental snacks to all students, regardless of perceived need. The program is delivered in alignment with Canada’s Food Guide, Manitoba Health guidelines, the new National School Food Policy, and with support from the Divisional Coordinator.

Reporting to the Nutrition Program Divisional Coordinator and under the direction of school administration and/or their designate, the Nutrition Program - School Facilitator II is responsible for supporting the school nutrition program. Responsibilities include minimal food preparation, receiving and storing food inventory, distributing snacks to students, and maintaining accurate records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive weekly deliveries to ensure accurate receipt and verification of food, equipment and/or supply items.

  • Plan, organize, and distribute snacks daily for students in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide.

  • Minimally prepare food for students.

  • Supply and manage snack carts in designated areas to ensure accessibility for students.

  • Maintain weekly inventory records for food and supplies to ensure timely order requests and replenishment based on program needs and student participation in liaison with the Divisional Coordinator.

  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment and work areas in accordance with the Manitoba Health and Safety Guidelines.

  • Store food items and supplies according to food safety standards and health regulations.

  • Liaise with the Divisional Coordinator to coordinate centralized food orders and streamline processes for food and supplies.

  • Collaborate with Nutrition Coordinators and Facilitators from other schools to share ideas, strategies, and plans to enhance nutrition services within the division.

  • Communicate with school administration to adapt and refine plans to better meet the needs of the student population in the school.

  • Promote and distribute program-related information and publicity materials to the school community as needed.

  • Travelling to different schools may be required on a weekly basis.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience or knowledge of working with young people is required.

  • External applicants must supply a Criminal Record Search and a cleared Child Abuse Registry check upon hire.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

  • Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

  • Food Handler Certificate is an asset.

  • An understanding of Canada’s Food Guide and relevant health and safety guidelines is an asset.

  • Experience in or knowledge of the food industry or related settings is an asset.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical demands:

  • Sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time may be required.

  • Lifting and unpacking delivered goods may be required.

Working conditions:

  • Exposure to noise.

  • Frequent interruptions with conflicting demands and deadlines.
