Equipment Operator 4 - Roads
About the role
Do you have a valid Class 3 Driver's License with Q endorsement with Grader Operator experience?
The Opportunity:
The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting to fill four (4) temporary full-time Equipment Operator 4 positions for the Roads section. The Equipment Operator 4 will be responsible to operate large heavy power-driven construction equipment (e.g. medium/large dozers, graders, backhoes) in a safe and efficient manner. Check, adjust and perform minor maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Five years of experience in related construction activities, to provide skill in the operation of assigned equipment and knowledge of the methods and materials used in Road construction.
- Grader Operator experience is required.
- Knowledge of the operating characteristics, functions and capabilities of assigned equipment and of required maintenance and adjustments. (e.g. obtained through on-the-job training or completion of courses – such as Keyano College).
- Valid Alberta Class 3, preferably Class 1, Driver's License with a "Q" endorsement.
- Completion of courses in defensive driving, traffic rules and regulations, safety and first aid or equivalent.
- Ability to operate equipment to the required level of skill, to use various hand tools associated with equipment operation and maintenance and manual work.
- Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions and to provide guidance and instructions as required.
- Ability to work accurately to required grades and specifications
- Ability to work with some independence.

Remuneration:
$33.70 to $35.68 per hour
Hours of Work:
80 hours biweekly as scheduled; some evening and weekend work may be required when needed.
Additional Information:
The term of this position is anticipated to be approximately 4 months with the possibility of an extension.
