Production Chef

Term of Employment: September 2, 2025 to August 31, 2026

Rate of Pay: $27.25 to $36.87 per hour

Location: Henlow Campus

Monday to Friday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (37.5 hours/week)

Reporting to the Academic Coordinator Culinary Arts & Food Services, the Production Chef is responsible for the day-to-day kitchen production, ordering, inventory control, equipment maintenance of the culinary and food services areas and practical skill reinforcement with Culinary Arts & Design students.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support in production of bakeshop and kitchen items for sale in the cafeterias.
  • Participate in practical skill reinforcement for the Culinary Arts & Design program.
  • Order and maintain kitchen and bakeshop inventory including but not limited to food, smallwares and capital assets.
  • Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of the culinary and food services areas to ensure proper operating conditions.
  • Coordinate the production of products for catering events, including hot beverages, between the food service areas and the Culinary Arts & Design program.
  • Establish and maintain safety SOP’s including but not limited to MSDS binders, cleaning schedules, and general maintenance reports.
  • Work collaboratively with the Academic Coordinator Culinary Arts & Food Services and the Teachers/Instructors to ensure ongoing high quality food service in all cafeterias.
  • Maintain a PMS system to work in conjunction with the POS system in place to ensure proper food cost is maintained.
  • Operate with limited service, including ensuring hot food is available in cafeteria with no staff (students) on admin, non-contact and PD days.
  • Assist with ongoing improvements to MITT food service.
  • Provide assistance with the budgeting, financial reporting, inventory management and menu costing processes that fall under the purview of the Academic Coordinator Culinary Arts & Food Services.
  • Promote a positive image of MITT throughout the culinary community; establish and maintain partnerships with suppliers, restaurateurs, food producers, or other entities within the culinary community while promoting community involvement.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

  • Red Seal Endorsement.
  • Manitoba Health Food Handler Training Certificate.
  • Vocational Education or Adult Education Certificate an asset.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the food service industry.
  • Business operation experience in inventory control.
  • Able to perform demonstrations.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Restaurant & Hospitality management experience is preferred.
  • Catering experience is preferred.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record check including vulnerable sector and Child Abuse Registry Check.
