Summary:
The Field Welder will be responsible read blueprints and interpret welding symbols, fit the pieces, and tack and make final welds. This position will be mostly focused on repair of construction heavy equipment and shoring systems.
Location: Clearway's Job Sites – Located within the Greater Toronto Area.
Hours of Operations: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am - 5:00 pm. Occasional weekend work when required. Must be flexible with working on-shift when required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
-
Read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings to be able to fit, tack weld and weld metal components to tolerance.
-
Review and determine the appropriate welding: equipment, process, filler metal and shielding gasses based on requirements.
-
Set up components for welding and cutting in accordance with specifications (e.g. set parameters for SMAW, FCAW, Plasma cutting or oxyfuel cutting torches for the appropriate thickness and type of metals.
-
Operate angle grinders, dye grinders, hand drills and other small power tools.
-
Accurately use calipers, rulers/measuring tapes to measure materials for cutting with precision accuracy.

Conduct welding in all positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead), with SMAW and FCAW.
-
Identify welding discontinuities and apply the necessary corrective measures.
-
Maintain welding and cutting equipment in a condition that does not compromise quality of work and safety.

Ensure tasks are performed in a timely manner as directed by the Field Welding Foreman and in accordance with the Company’s Health and Safety Policies and Provincial and Federal Safety Regulations.
Requirements:
-
Must be a active member in good standing with the LiUNA Local 183 Union, or will need to sign up with the Union if not a member already

Minimum 3 years proven welding experience.

Current or previously held CWB tickets in SMAW and FCAW.
-
Be able to pass CWB welding test in all positions for SMAW and FCAW.
-
Experience with GMAW, GTAW and SMAW open root is considered an asset.
-
Has experience in welding SMAW and FCAW (dual shield or gasless) in carbon steel and stainless steel.

Experience using electrical power tools.
-
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawing.

Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing such as face shield, gloves, earplugs, respirators, steel toe boots, etc.
