The ideal candidate:

The ideal candidate is a 3rd or 4th year Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering student who is mechanically inclined, resourceful, and thrives in both shop and office settings. They are confident using tools and equipment, capable of interpreting blueprints, and skilled in CAD software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD. With a strong interest in process improvement and technical problem-solving, they take initiative, enjoy hands-on work, and bring a collaborative, safety-conscious mindset to everything they do.

Superior Glove Works Ltd.is currently hiring for an Engineering Technician Co-op Student to work out of its Global Headquarters located in Acton ON Canada.

More about the role:

Reporting to the Global Leader, Continuous Improvement, the Engineering Technician Co-op Student will support Superior Glove’s manufacturing innovation efforts by contributing to the design, assembly, and optimization of custom production and packaging equipment. Reporting to the Global Leader, Continuous Improvement, this role is a 50/50 blend of hands-on fabrication and technical design work. The student will assist with mechanical builds, modifications, testing, and validation of machinery, while also supporting CAD drafting, SOP creation, and process documentation. This position is ideal for students looking to gain practical, real-world experience in industrial equipment design and implementation within a high-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

Fabrication & Testing (50%)

  • Assist with prototype builds and new product assembly
  • Operate tools and equipment to fabricate and modify production and packaging systems
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Perform quality checks, conduct performance testing, and support root cause investigations
  • Document test results, feedback, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Design & Documentation (50%)

  • Collaborating with engineering teams on concept design and validation
  • Create and revise 2D/3D models using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Prepare engineering drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation
  • Support the development of custom machinery, jigs, and fixtures
  • Assist in defining equipment and process requirements for prototypes and upgrades
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 3rd or 4th year student enrolled in a Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering program.
  • Strong hands-on experience with workshop tools, mechanical assembly, and prototyping
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Solid understanding of machine design, mechanical systems, and process optimization
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical schematics, and SOPs
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen)
  • Basic knowledge of PLC wiring, pneumatics, or mechanical troubleshooting
  • Previous co-op or summer work experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment
