Position Summary:
The Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations at construction sites, ensuring that projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Site Superintendent will coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and team members to facilitate seamless project execution. They will uphold health and safety standards, manage site activities, and ensure compliance with project specifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Site Management & Coordination:**
Supervise all on-site activities, ensuring work progresses according to project plans, schedules, and safety standards. Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to optimize workflow.
Health & Safety Compliance:**
Enforce adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
Quality Control:**
Monitor workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with project specifications, drawings, and standards. Address quality issues promptly and effectively.
Schedule & Progress Monitoring:**
Track daily progress and compare it against project schedules. Report delays or issues promptly to the Project Manager and develop corrective action plans.
Communication & Documentation:**
Attend site meetings, document daily activities, and communicate project updates to the project team and stakeholders. Maintain detailed site records, including daily logs, safety reports, and progress photos.
Resource Management: **
Ensure that materials, equipment, and personnel are available and properly allocated. Coordinate deliveries and optimize resource utilization to avoid delays.
Permits & Compliance: **
Ensure all necessary permits, notices, and approvals are obtained and maintained throughout the project.
Client & Stakeholder Relations: **
Maintain professional relationships with clients, consultants, and team members. Address site issues proactively and facilitate effective communication.
Subcontractor Oversight: **
Conduct regular site meetings with subcontractors, review their work, and ensure their activities align with project timelines and quality standards.
Reporting & Administration: **
Assist in preparing progress reports, change order documentation, and other project-related records. Support the Project Manager with administrative tasks as needed.
Requirements:
Education & Experience: **
Minimum of 5-10 years of construction experience, preferably in heavy civil, sewer, watermain, and road reconstruction projects.
Relevant degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: **
Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
Safety certifications (e.g., WSIB, First Aid, etc.) are a plus.
Skills & Competencies: **
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and safety standards.
Proficiency with project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, HCSS Heavy Bid, Microsoft Project is an asset).
Sound understanding of health and safety regulations and practices.
