About the role

Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. Working within the full scope of practice, the LPN observes, monitors, reports, and documents changes in the patients physical, mental, and emotional state, assists the patient with activities of daily living and provides the patient and family with relevant information and teaching. The LPN is responsible to collaborate as a member of the health care team, delivering consistent quality care, to meet the needs of the patient.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

This is a front-line nursing position on a busy and diverse medical unit. Once trained and with the proper experience, the incumbent must be willing to work on all Medicine units. Shift work is required. The LPN must be able to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient/client planning processes. Excellent communication skills, a compassionate and caring attitude, and attention to detail are necessary. The incumbent must show leadership and decision-making ability and be able to exercise sound clinical judgment and use initiative. The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergency situation is essential. This position is physically demanding, including (but not limited to) standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, carrying, twisting, bending, kneeling, crouching, overhead lifting, mobilization and repetitive movements. The incumbent must have the ability to assist with all levels of care for bariatric patients, as well as the ability to handle 21-50 pounds frequently. The candidate must possess strong communication skills utilizing a variety of modalities and the ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of patients/family, relay patient information to primary health care provider(s), on and off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner, in order to facilitate the primary health care provider’s treatment decisions. 2 years of recent acute adult experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Palliative nursing care experience would be an asset. Computer experience is preferred. Responsible to provide proof of active registration with the College and Association of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) and to maintain registration throughout the duration of employment. Offer of employment will be conditional based upon acceptance of a completed Communicable Disease Assessment (CDA) form.
