About the role

Job Description As an Assistant Ship Manager, you will be responsible for supporting and supervising teams of managers to ensure their performance aligns with the company’s strategic priorities (SQCDME), while providing operational support to the Ship Manager.

More Specifically, You Will

  • Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
  • Support the Ship Manager in promoting and maintaining a strong OHS culture.
  • Actively participate in monthly health and safety meetings.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of OHS indicators and implementation of corrective measures in the event of deviations.
  • Ensure environmental practices comply with current standards.
  • Conduct or participate in OHS investigations, as required.
  • Quality
  • Participate in validating the quality of work performed on the project.
  • Support managers in integrating quality requirements into work planning and execution.
  • Contribute to the analysis of non-conformities and implementation of sustainable solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Control Department to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Costs, Production, and Performance
  • Support the Ship Manager in respecting the budget and rigorously monitoring it.
  • Manage weekly production reports (SQCDME, SPI, CPI) and help analyze discrepancies.
  • Participate in the development of action plans to correct performance gaps.
  • Collaborate in managing the materials and equipment required to complete the project.
  • Help verify the information on work orders to ensure compliance.
  • Coordination and Leadership
  • Assist the Ship Manager in supervising managers to ensure the overall performance of the project.
  • Effectively communicate action plans to zone managers and track their implementation.
  • Participate in the preparation and facilitation of daily and weekly meetings with stakeholders.
  • Help resolve conflicts between managers and promote collaboration within the team.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support the Ship Manager in managing working relationships within the team.
  • Strategic Alignment and Communication
  • Participate in level-3 (T3) team meetings, manager meetings, daily follow-ups with the Production Director, and weekly project meetings.
  • Maintain a functional contact with the Ship Manager, zone managers, as well as the Quality Control, Project, HSE/ENV, and HR Departments.
  • Contribute to spreading Davie’s work culture among managers.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in an industrial environment.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience in personnel management.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Intermediate level of English (both written and spoken). This level of English is required for this position as the incumbent will be required to interact with English‑speaking suppliers.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Successful completion of the investigation and security clearance process required by the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
