It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to broadly provide Inuit-specific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design, development, and delivery of a wide range of effective, client-centered services, TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

The Manager, Inuit Relations oversees the strategic planning, partnerships, and leads the continuous evaluation of the Mamisarvik Healing Centre (MHC) and Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) programs. This role works closely with internal and external partners to support programming, special projects, and sustainability planning. The Manager of Inuit Relations actively integrates evaluation tools and techniques into the residential program and leads quality improvement initiatives as necessary. This role also acts as the liaison to community partnerships and research projects related to or involving MHC and TI.

Responsibilities:
Community Engagement and Research

  • To ensure the quality of MHC/TI programs, solicit client, community and staff feedback and work towards addressing concerns and/or incorporating new innovative ideas.
  • Participate at stakeholder tables to build and solidify broader health partnerships.
  • Keep up to date with the latest research on trauma, addiction, recovery and best practices. Liaise with research partners and participate in forums for further research.
  • Analyze and prepare briefs/reports on various research projects.
  • Work with MHC and TI leadership to encourage a shared decision-making approach and to actively provide input in program and policy development.

Statistics, Data Collection and Compliance

  • Ensure the collection and summarization of client and service statistics/data on a regular basis.
  • Monitor and evaluate program performance through a range of measures, internal tools, and external consultation, and communicate results to the Director of Mamisarvik.
  • Oversee maintenance of confidential client files and ensure compliance with privacy legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with all mandated health and safety, legal and regulatory requirements related to working at Tungasuvvingat Inuit and in a trauma and addictions treatment program.
  • Ensure all documents such as, but not limited to incident reports are documented and forwarded to funders as may be required.

Evaluation and Quality Assurance

  • Assist program leaders in the review MHC/TI program requirements, objectives, and intended results, in an effort to develop/contribute to an evaluation/quality assurance system that supports continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives.
  • Analyze evaluation data/information to recommend optimal changes to programming and MHC and other TI’s operations.
  • Explore accreditation options and oversee efforts to fulfill the requirements. Ensure that TI management is kept fully informed of developments, progress and issues related to the MHC and other TI programs

Team Leadership

  • Encourages a participatory, consultative, team-based approach to service evaluation, planning and provision through ongoing interaction with staff.
  • Accountable for contributing to a positive, healthy, and safe work environment.
  • Provides guidance and advice to staff to support improved performance.
  • Participates in recruitment panels to ensure effective selection of staff when required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staff are equipped with the necessary information, training, resources, and support to successfully implement new or revised practices and procedures.
  • May oversee student placements and manage associated Human Resources responsibilities, including placement coordination, orientation, ongoing supervision, and performance management.
  • To stay connected with the MHC program community and staff, participate/support in the coordination of program activities (e.g., when time permits, participate in the coordination of any On-the-Land component and involvement of Elders in programming).

Financial Planning

  • Work with the Director, Mamisarvik, Treatment Manager, HR and Finance to review potential opportunities for funding and provide relevant information to prepare submissions and proposals.
  • Support the Director, Mamisarvik and Treatment Manager in preparing the comprehensive budget for MHC programming and projects. Assist the Director, Mamisarvik and Treatment Manager with funder reporting requirements.

Qualifications

Knowledge of and appreciation for Inuit culture and values and exemplifying the 8 Guiding Principles of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit. Knowledge of industry healing programs and approaches including traditional Inuit healing methods. Understands of government systems, programs, policies and processes.

The ideal candidate should have excellent interpersonal and team building skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders, senior management and staff. Excellent project management and organizational skills, strong research skills, attention to detail, excellent writing, verbal and presentation skills, problem-solving, decision making and time management skills.

Ability to participate in decision-making and strategic planning, to function effectively during situations that may become stressful. Be self-motivated and meet deadlines is required.

Secondary School is required. Community College in Social work or human resources is preferred. Undergraduate Degree/Diploma in Mental Heath, Addictions, Indigenous studies, administration, social work, human services is preferred.

Five years experience in project management and with stakeholder relations and internal/external partnerships is required. Two years experience in research and analysis and program evaluation is required. One year previous experience working in an indigenous organization is required and experience in budget preparation and oversight is preferred.

Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, video-conferencing platforms and electronic records management applications and a clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is required. Availability to work evening and weekends in required. Fluency in Englis, written and oral is required. Ability to speak Inuktitut is preferred.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range $76,000 to $80,000
