Your impact

Jacobs is currently looking to hire an Environmental Planner with Socio-Economic Expertise , based out of Western Canada . This position offers the opportunity to support complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure projects while playing a key role in integrating social, economic and cultural data into environmental planning documents.

As a member of our Environmental Solutions group, you will bring a combination of environmental planning and socio-economic expertise to support environmental assessments, permitting, and engagement efforts. You will work collaboratively across project teams to ensure socio-economic matters and perspectives are thoughtfully integrated into project planning and delivery as well as being a driver for consistency among client applications.

Key Responsibilities In This Role

  • Coordinate and provide technical writing for environmental assessments and regulatory filings, including the integration of socio-economic components and Indigenous knowledge and values, where applicable.
  • Support a variety of environmental planning and permitting tasks with multi-disciplinary teams for infrastructure projects in Canada.
  • Understand regulatory requirements (e.g., BC Environmental Assessment Act, CER Filing Manual, Impact Assessment Agency of Canada) to support the socio-economic valued components of an impact assessments.
  • Integrate project-specific data for the human environment components of applications (e.g., infrastructure and services, land and resource use, Gender based analyses, human health assessment, project revenue, economic analysis, etc.) into project deliverables throughout the project life cycle.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop applications and reports.
  • Work with the Indigenous engagement teams to integrate indigenous interests into applications as appropriate.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelors or Graduate degree in a Natural Resources or Social Sciences related field (e.g., biology, ecology, geography, social sciences).
  • Demonstrated understanding of how socio-economic valued components are integrated into an impact assessment.
  • Knowledge of gender-based analysis plus; experience integrating this into project documentation considered an asset.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and respectfully about Socio-economic perspectives.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities, with experience working on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful, inclusive approach to engagement with diverse communities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental assessment and regulatory systems in Canada.
  • Experience working with and integrating Indigenous interests into assessments and reporting.

Ideally you’ll also have

  • Familiarity with legislation including the Federal Impact Assessment Act, BC Environmental Assessment Act, and/or Alberta Energy Regulator requirements.
  • Experience with major infrastructure or energy projects through planning, engagement, and construction.

Posted Salary Range Minimum

71,900.00

Posted Salary Range Upper

108,680.00

The base salary range for this position is $71,900.00 to $108,680.00. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across British Columbia, Canada locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
