Your Opportunity

The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one’s field, instructional
and professional duties, professional development and service.

Functions and Duties

Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:

  • Instructional (teaching assignments)
  • Course and program preparation and revision
  • Student contact
  • Student advising
  • Evaluation and marking of student work
  • Other functions related to instruction

Professional duties may include any or all of the following:

  • Curriculum development
  • Student registration
  • Pre-registration duties

Service may include any or all of the following:

  • School visitations
  • Participation on OC committees
  • Attendance at articulation meetings
  • Representing OC at other function
  • sAdministrative and other duties

Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Education and Experience

  1. Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.

  2. An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.

  3. An Instructor’s Diploma or valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

  4. Six to ten years recent relevant experience.

Skills and Abilities

Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Successful applicants will be an integral part of the team that will help Okanagan College realize the promise of a world-class college. Candidates will be comfortable in a computerized environment and demonstrate knowledge of programs relevant to their discipline. The successful applicant will be able to encourage communication between students and faculty.

  • Red Seal Gasfitter

  • Cross Connection Control License

Schedule

Given on-call nature of position, schedule and frequency of instruction may vary.

Typical instructional day is between 6 hours to 8 hours. Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours.

Location of instruction may also vary depending on program. Program could be offered at Vernon, Kelowna, and Penticton campuses.

Initial on-call contract is setup until Jun 30, 2026 but is not a guarantee of work for the entire contract period.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate

Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 annually; normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
