About the role
The Sr. Compensation and Performance Specialist role will lead the design and execution of compensation programs that are equitable, competitive and aligned with the company’s Total Rewards strategy. This includes the ongoing administration of compensation programs, leveraging tools such as the Dayforce compensation module to ensure accuracy, consistency and operational efficiency. This role will conduct in-depth market analysis and deliver data-driven insights to Senior Leadership, leveraging tools like Excel, Power BI, and MicroStrategy. The role includes managing incentive programs that drive Team Member engagement and performance, while continuously refining performance appraisal tools to meet evolving business needs. This role will also oversee compensation budgeting processes in partnership with Finance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with industry standards. Additionally, this role will champion the performance management framework, providing expert guidance, training and analytics to foster a high-performance culture across the organization.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and implement compensation program initiatives that align with the company's total rewards strategy.
- Leverage Dayforce to administer cyclical compensation programs, such as the annual merit cycle and annual bonus cycle and drive the successful execution of multiple concurrent compensation projects
- Lead ongoing education and communication initiatives to enhance understanding of compensation programs
- Conduct annual reviews and analysis of competitive market positioning, including benchmark surveys to inform compensation strategies.
- Prepare and present comprehensive reports and recommendations on compensation strategies to senior management.
- Utilize reporting tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, and MicroStrategy to provide insights into compensation trends.
- Manage the planning and implementation of incentive programs to drive Team Member performance and engagement.
- Own the compensation budget cycles, providing guidance to leaders on effective budget management. Partner with Finance to prepare, forecast, and review compensation budgets in alignment with business needs.
- Monitor industry trends and legislative changes to ensure compliance and support business operations.
- Lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the organization’s performance management framework, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and cultural values
- Evaluate and revamp performance appraisal tools to meet evolving company needs.
- Develop and deliver training and communication materials to support leaders and Team Members in understanding and effectively engaging with performance management tools and processes.
- Provide backup support across key Total Rewards functions, including benefits administration, employee recognition, and perks to ensure continuity and responsiveness during peak periods or absences.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
- University degree or equivalent education and experience in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Post-secondary education in a related field; CHRP/CHRL, CCP, or CEBS designation is an asset.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in compensation program design and administration, preferably within the grocery retail industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of compensation program design and administration.
- Experience with HRIS compensation modules, preferably Dayforce compensation module.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
- Experience with BI tools such as Power BI and MicroStrategy is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on relationship building and collaboration across departments.
- Experience partnering with operations and finance teams to align compensation strategies with business objectives.
- Ability to manage multiple projects related to compensation programs and communicate updates effectively to senior management.
Working Conditions:
- Limited physical effort. Potentially some stooping and lifting of light material, such as would normally be found in an office environment.
- Office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
- Occasional travel to stores in the Greater Toronto Area is required
