Job Description
AltaGas is seeking a Manager, Cost Accounting and Capital to join our team. You will be responsible for overseeing our organization's cost accounting functions and capital functions ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial reporting. You will lead a team of individuals and working closely with cross-functional teams throughout the business.
Your Responsibilities:
- Manage the cost accounting function, including accounting for operating expenses and midstream G&A ensuring appropriate classification between operating expenses and capital, performing accruals and other operating expense related journal entries.
- Manage the capital accounting function within Midstream including putting assets in service, depreciation, disposing of assets and reviewing and approving capital project items including project set up forms, in service forms, close out forms etc. and annual ARO review process.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting policies, procedures, and systems to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.
- Manage a team of cost and capital accountants, providing guidance, coaching, and support to ensure team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their job functions effectively.
- Review and approve capital projects proposed by operations.
- Meet with capital project managers on a regular basis to learn the status of capital projects
- Manage the capital and expense budget process.
- Manage the operating expense outlook process and provide associated variance analysis
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze data necessary to prepare and review cost accounting and capital reports.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure that financial statements accurately reflect the organization's costs and capital is reported correctly.
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of variances and assist in the development of action plans to address issues identified.
- Meet with operations and Senior Management to review financial results and attend asset planning sessions.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of cost reduction initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements.
- Contract review to make sure accruals, budget and outlook properly reflect the contract terms.
Your Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelors’ degree (Commerce, Business Administration or related discipline) preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in cost accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles, procedures, and systems.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and communicate results effectively.
- Ability to lead and manage a team of cost accountants.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other accounting software
We offer a competitive salary range of $112,000 to $162,000 CAD per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
