Tax Manager
About the role
Our client, a well-established public accounting firm, is currently seeking a Tax Manager to join their growing tax team. This role offers a strong opportunity to work directly with Partners and Senior Managers on complex tax matters, and to take on meaningful leadership in tax planning and compliance.
This position is ideal for a CPA with a solid tax background who is looking to deepen their technical expertise while mentoring others and playing a hands-on role in client-facing engagements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Final review of tax compliance files including T1, T2, T3, and partnership returns, along with related foreign reporting requirements
- Lead tax planning engagements and review technical tax memorandums
- Review instruction letters for reorganizations, estate planning, post-mortem strategies, business succession, and M&A activity
- Conduct tax research and interpret evolving legislation to provide proactive client solutions
- Identify and escalate significant tax issues with actionable recommendations
- Delegate and manage tax file tasks within quality and delivery standards
- Correspond with the CRA and provincial tax authorities on client matters
- Support and mentor junior tax staff, acting as a technical resource for the team
- Attend client meetings to discuss timelines, technical concerns, and tax recommendations
- Manage billing, recoverability, and budget on engagements
Qualifications:
- CPA designation in good standing
- Minimum 5 years of experience in public practice, with at least 2 years focused on tax
- Currently enrolled in the CPA In-Depth Tax Program or MTax (or willingness to enroll)
- Strong technical understanding of Canadian income tax compliance and planning
- Prior experience with complex planning engagements is an asset
- Clear, confident communication skills—both written and verbal
- A team mindset and interest in mentoring junior staff
- Strong desire to keep learning and growing within the tax field
