We design, manufacture, and support advanced equipment sensing and analysis products, including on-line oil debris sensors, torque measurement sensors, turbine blade health sensors, and at-line oil analysis systems.

Based in Ottawa, Ontario, the Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Manager of Electrical Engineering and will have a wide range of duties which ultimately focus around developing analog and digital product design solutions within the cross-disciplined Engineering department at Gastops.

What You’ll Do:

The Electrical Design Engineer will be part of the Electrical Engineering team with the primary focus of designing and maintaining products within the Engineering department. You will:

  • Lead the design, test and manufacturing strategy of electrical-based products
  • Define the electrical design technology roadmaps for the Engineering department
  • Support Manufacturing Engineers with Electrical Engineering initiatives
  • Champion introducing new technologies, tools, manufacturing, and test process initiatives in the Electrical Engineering department
  • Support development and use of internal processes, standards, and department initiatives
  • Perform simulation and tolerance analysis to ensure performance margin over the product life cycle
  • Mentor Electrical Engineering staff

Who You Are:

  • Skilled and experienced in analog and digital design technologies, methods, and processes
  • Seasoned in electrical design principles for manufacturability and reliability
  • Proficient at electrical Engineering modelling and analysis methods (MATLAB, PSpice, etc.)
  • Experienced electro-optical component, sub-assembly, and system designer
  • Strong and clear communicator able to communicate high level recommendations succinctly
  • Technically capable writer and presenter able to succinctly summarize Engineering details and analyses

What You Should Bring:

The ideal candidate will have an Engineering or equivalent degree with at least 5-7 years of demonstrated hardware product design in mission critical and/or analytical applications. Additionally, you should have:

  • 7-10 years of mixed signal analog and digital electronics design experience
  • 7-10 years of power electronics design experience
  • 7-10 years of electro-mechanical product design experience
  • 7-10 years of design for manufacturability, test and reliability experience
  • 7-10 years of performing analog and digital modelling, simulation, and analyses
  • 7-10 years of experience in a project/product driven environment
  • Experience with system on a chip (SoC/PSoC) architecture, design, and trade-off analyses
  • Experience with programmable devices (CPLD, FPGA) and evolution to fixed targets (ASIC)
  • Experience with microcontrollers and digital signal processors
  • Experience with analytical instrumentation design
  • Strong troubleshooting and laboratory skills

Complimentary Experience:

Additional consideration will be given to candidates having experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Airborne electronic (DO-160/254) or equivalent (automotive) product design experience
  • International electrical design standards and requirements (CE, RoHS, REACH, etc.)
  • International electrical safety standards and requirements (CSA, UL, ATEX, IECEx, etc.)
  • Imaging detection systems (CCD, CMOS, IR/NIR, etc.)
  • Electro-optic design
  • Fiber-optic design
  • Experience in aerospace and/or other harsh environment product design

Note on the Engineering Title:

To comply with regulations set by the provincial engineering licensing bodies the title of Engineer will only be given to those who are Licensed as a Professional Engineer in Canada. Candidates who are not currently licensed may be referred to using alternative titles such as “Designer,” “Specialist,” or “Analyst.” Once licensed, an engineer will be expected to review engineering content produced by the team under their professional capacity.
