Position Description
Child Life Assistant
We are currently looking for a Child Life Assistant to join our Child Life team at the Hospital for Sick Children.
The Child Life Assistant is responsible for providing opportunities for unstructured play under the guidance of a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) and Professional Practice Lead (PPL). The Child Life Assistant will assist the Child Life team in planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate play activities to help normalize the hospital experience and support the emotional and psychosocial needs of children aged 0-18.
Here's What You'll Get To Do:
- Conduct basic developmental screening of children for provision of appropriate play activities
- Collaborate with CCLSs to plan and support individual patient needs
- Provide individual and group play opportunities in the hospital family play spaces
- Plan, provide, promote and evaluate developmentally appropriate play programs for children, adolescents, and families.
- Maintain clean and safe play environments/materials following infection prevention and control policies and procedures
- Assist with department supplies, restocking, pick-up, organization, storage, and delivery.
Here's What You'll Need:
- College diploma or certificate in a discipline such as Recreation Therapy, Child and Youth Care, or Early Childhood Studies.
- Experience working with children and their families, including experience planning and delivering leisure activities for adolescents.
- Ability to provide culturally sensitive and inclusive care to a diverse and multi-cultural, multi-faith population.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively on multiple teams, within an acute care environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.
