Software Analyst (SWAT)
This is a fixed-term contract until December 2026
The Software Analyst (SWAT) is responsible for ensuring the quality of software delivery for large-scale rail signalling projects. The candidate will work with other software developers and systems engineers to create, execute, and evaluate in-house software tests and test plans. As part of the software delivery team, the candidate will gain experience in rail signalling and CBTC, developing a deep understanding of both the signalling systems and rail operation. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and skills in software testing. A proactive mindset and desire to make a difference will be key to the success of the role.
Key Accountabilities:
- Performs analysis of system, subsystem, and software requirements to define validation methods and test cases.
- Develops and maintains test plans, procedures, and test cases. Prepares test reports for pass and fail status of tests and identifies the root cause of failures reported during testing.
- Development of test automation.
- Perform engineering studies of assigned system functions.
- Conduct test case analysis on assigned functions.
- Conduct test execution within the laboratory.
- Consistently recognize anomalous system behaviour and document the behaviour into the problem tracking system.
- Conduct initial review of test results through incorporating analysis of collected data with observed system responses.
- Communicate test observation and results in both oral and written media to other engineering staff, superiors, and customers.
- Conduct operational and stress-test (bust-it) scenarios.
- Acquire product knowledge through active participation in formal and on-the-job training, as well as self-study.
- Adhere to the company’s processes and work instructions.
Non-Technical:
- Work on several projects consecutively and deliver on time and on-budget.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams and build long-term working relationships with others.
- Continuously seek and propose improvements to methods and processes utilized for testing.
Safety:
- Promote a safety culture where product safety is paramount.
- Ensure that safety is built into the test strategy by early identification and resolution of safety-related defects.
Key Requirements:
- B. Sc.in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- Relevant software testing or development experience.
- Working knowledge of C, C++, Perl, or Python.
- Strong planning and organization skills.
- Strong technical writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated fluency and understanding/comprehension in oral and written English.
- Experience with modern software development methodologies, processes, and tools (Agile, SCRUM, DevOps).
- Proficiency in Office software tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in regulated industries: rail signalling, aerospace, or medical systems.
- Experience with real-time systems and embedded system testing.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, and wireless communication.
- Knowledge of rail signalling and CBTC systems.
