The Senior Coordinator (Health and Safety) plays a critical leadership role in driving a proactive health and safety culture across all operational sites. This role provides expert-level guidance, strategic support, and mentorship in implementing and sustaining comprehensive health and safety systems. The Coordinator partners with senior site leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and the continual improvement of safety performance across industrial, construction, mining, and aggregate operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Health and Safety Management System (HSMS) across multiple sites.
- Serve as a trusted coordinator to operational leaders on matters related to occupational health and safety, including regulatory compliance, risk mitigation strategies, and safety leadership.
- Facilitate the development, implementation, and monitoring of site-specific Health & Safety Improvement Plans.
- Provide high-level coaching and mentorship to site safety coordinators and frontline supervisors to promote consistent and effective safety practices.
- Conduct complex risk assessments and support the design and implementation of effective controls using the hierarchy of controls framework.
- Collaborate with project and operations management in developing safe work procedures, especially for high-risk tasks such as heavy equipment use, confined spaces, working at heights, and energy isolation.
- Lead or oversee thorough investigations of serious incidents and high-potential near misses, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor and analyze health and safety metrics to identify trends, ensure compliance, and guide strategic initiatives.
- Support regulatory inspections and represent the company in external audits, ensuring findings are addressed and closed out promptly.
- Coordinate return-to-work programs in collaboration with human resources and operational leaders to support injured workers’ recovery and reintegration.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum 5 plus years of progressive experience in a health and safety role or supervisor role in construction, or industrial sectors would be an asset
- COR experience is an asset
- NCSO designation is an asset
- Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field is required; CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent certification is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying health and safety legislation and standards.
- Proven ability to lead safety initiatives in complex and dynamic work environments.
- Experience with safety software computer systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and data reporting tools.
