What you’ll do:
CSP is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Publishing Technology Specialist to join our Publishing Technologies team. This role focuses on two core areas:
- Administering the publishing platform's content management system (CMS): supporting development, troubleshooting, and maintaining article XML.
- Championing continuous process improvement: enhancing workflows across teams, fostering innovation, and supporting training and documentation.
The role reports to the Director, Publishing Technologies and has no direct reports.
This is an ideal role for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, publishing operations, and process optimization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Platform Administration
- Oversee and maintain the CMS for CSP’s scholarly journal platform.
- Manage a queue of platform maintenance and change requests, including triage, feasibility analysis, testing and quality assurance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for reporting platform issues to Atypon (the hosting provider), managing communications, and monitoring the support ticket system to ensure timely resolution.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot platform issues reported via internal support systems and communicate resolution statuses.
- Support development of new website features and assist with implementation and QA.
- Maintain, validate, edit, and troubleshoot JATS XML while staying current with JATS4R and NISO standards and ensuring vendor compliance.
- Set up new pages and journal sites within CSP’s journal platform as needed, ensuring all new website content is consistent with site templates and branding
- Manage web accessibility compliance in collaboration with internal teams and external vendors by overseeing the implementation of necessary improvements. Process Improvement & Optimization
- Collaborate with internal teams to evaluate workflows and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and process optimization.
- Maintain clear documentation of workflows, publishing technology tools, and best practices. Research & Implementation of New Tools
- Evaluate and assist with the integration of third-party publishing tools and services.
- Stay informed about industry trends and new technologies relevant to publishing platform
What you'll bring:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree or equivalent experience in publishing, preferably scholarly publishing.
- Experience managing online publishing platforms (Atypon Experience Platform, greatly preferred).
- Knowledge of JATS XML and/or HTML in an XML-first publishing environment.
- Experience with web accessibility standards (WCAG), including their application in evaluating, developing, or maintaining accessible digital content and platforms.
- Experience in QA testing, issue identification, and reporting to support platform quality and improvement.
- Experience documenting workflows and using project management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and improve business processes.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Skilled in workflow documentation and technical communication.
- Effective facilitator and communicator with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Organized, deadline-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- A collaborative spirit with the ability to lead improvement initiatives and gain cross-functional buy-in.

The anticipated salary range for this position is CAD $70,000 – $80,000 . CSP celebrates diversity and is an equal opportunity employer. The starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills and abilities.
