One of the sunniest regions in BC’s Lower Mainland, Delta embraces three unique communities – Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen. The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.

This front line position provides visitor reception and is responsible for delivering tours, programs, and special events at the Discovery Centre. Duties may include: greeting and orienting visitors; promoting self guided tours; leading tours, school and public programs; assisting with the preparation and development of activities and special events; assisting with exhibition set up and take down; researching and assisting in the development and delivery of heritage and cultural programs; monitoring displays; assisting with collections inventory, documentation, processing, and digitization; minor janitorial maintenance in exhibition spaces and the archives reading room; communicating with and supporting volunteers; and performing other related work as required.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy working with people and have the following skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrates an interest in local culture, history and heritage.
  • Excellent customer service skills, people skills, and guest service oriented.
  • Experience speaking engagingly, clearly and audibly to large groups of people.
  • Experience in delivering and assisting with the development of guided tours to a variety of age groups.
  • Experience in delivering and assisting with the development of educational programming to a variety of age groups.
  • Flexible, self motivated, and can take initiative with little supervision.
  • Able to follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
  • Knowledge of the rules and procedures relating to the set up and take down of exhibitions, physical artefacts and digital components.
  • Research skills and an interest in the care and handling of artifacts.
  • Ability to assist with the coordination of activities and special events.
  • Ability to assist in the development, implementation and promotion of Discovery Centre programs and special events.

Desirable Training and Experience

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses related to arts, culture and heritage and some related experience working in a recreational or cultural services setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Some experience working with the public and children in an educational setting.

Required Licences, Certificates and Registrations

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
  • First Aid Certificate/CPR C/AED

This position is currently placed at facility or in division. The position is not portfolio specific nor site specific and may be reassigned in future based on operational needs.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $24.97 - $29.20 per hour + 12% in lieu of vacation, public holidays and benefits.
