Starting Salary Range: $50,000 - $54,000 annually. This is the starting base range for this role and may vary based on internal equity, and a candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Over and above the base salary and the benefits highlighted above, this position is also eligible for an incentive bonus of up to 5% of the annual salary.
Position Summary
The Coordinator, Travel Media plays a key role in supporting Travel Media department's overall goal of generating positive, engaging editorial coverage for Whistler and its members. This position is responsible for managing the department’s media database, maintaining the online media room, tracking and reporting media coverage, and distributing media communications. The role also helps facilitate visiting media experiences in-resort and provides administrative and logistical support to the Travel Media Managers.
Key Responsibilities
All team members act as Tourism Whistler ambassadors, living our purpose and vision with passion & energy, achievement and respect.
Media Tracking & Content Coordination:
- Lead the tracking and reporting of earned media coverage, including updates to D365 and Coveragebook, and compile monthly reporting for internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain and update media, industry, and partner contact records in D365 and Campaign Monitor
- Respond to high volumes of media requests, including story ideas, fact-checking, images/B-roll, and background information
- Coordinate and distribute Travel Media’s monthly e-newsletter The Vibe
- Research and draft story ideas, backgrounders, and personality profiles; ensure content is accurate and up to date
- Liaise with members and partners to collect story starters, seasonal news, and “What’s New” updates
Digital Asset & Tools Management:
- Maintain and enhance the online media room, updating content and images seasonally or as needed
- Maintain up to date Event Image page
- Oversee the Travefy itinerary library, ensuring descriptions, contacts, and imagery are current and relevant
Team & Administrative Support:
- Provide administrative support to the Travel Media Managers
- Manage welcome packages and logistics for incoming media visits (e.g., lift tickets, gift cards, etc.)
- Manage inventory of media gifts, research new locally made products, and coordinate with other departments on orders and procurement
- Support with media visit itinerary coordination and as opportunity arises, lead and coordinate media visits
- Coordinate and distribute correspondence related to the Media Visit Program
- Lead planning and execution of the bi-annual Whistler Travel Media Committee (WTMC) meetings
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Passion and knowledge of Whistler, mountain culture, and the tourism industry
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in marketing, communications, PR, or related fields
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a sharp eye for detail
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Ability to work independently and exercise maturity, good judgment and discretion
- Strategic thinker with creative problem-solving abilities
- Collaborative team player with experience working across departments
- Post-secondary education in marketing, communications, journalism or related fields is an asset
Bonus points if you have:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Experience with D365, Coveragebook, Travefy, Canva, ChatGPT is an asset
- Knowledge/experience working with content creators and related social media tools
- Knowledge/experience working with measurement and tracking tools for social media initiatives
