Hours: 8:30 am to 5 pm

Reports to: Logistics Manager

Here’s what we do…

Combined Metal Industries (CMI for short!) sources and processes recycled ferrous and non-ferrous metals across North America and ensure they do not end up in a landfill or go to waste. Our recycling stream ensures that all the ferrous and non-ferrous metals that enter our yards will create something new again!

Here’s where you come in!

The Logistics Specialist is responsible for coordinating over-the-road (OTR) freight operations with a focus on hauling, dumping, and packaging loads across domestic and international borders. This role plays a critical part in managing end-to-end logistics solutions, ensuring cost-efficiency, compliance, and timely delivery. The ideal candidate is a skilled negotiator, understands supplier insurance and legal terms, and can manage cross-border shipping risks with precision.

Sound good so far? Here’s what you’ll be responsible for in this role…

  • Plan, book, and schedule over the road inbound and outbound shipments including cross-border freight.
  • Oversee partnerships with carriers
  • Identify and address potential risks
  • Analyze logistics data and KPIs to assess opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth freight execution.
  • Engage with management by providing solutions and updates on logistical obstacles or setbacks
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency.

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of logistics or transportation experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in rate negotiation with strong commercial and business acumen
  • Knowledge of over-the-border transportation regulations and customs compliance (U.S./Canada or international).
  • Familiarity with insurance policies related to freight carriers and suppliers.
  • Proficient with transportation management software, and Microsoft Office tools, knowledge with load board systems is an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Ability to demonstrate personal initiative, ownership and accountability
