Senior Financial Analyst, Investment Accounting and Operations
Purpose of role
The Senior Financial Analyst, Investment Accounting and Operations, is responsible for the timely and accurate reporting of investment on all of Foresters North American measured assets (approx. C$7 billion) as well as the related accounting for these assets. This position is also responsible for the production of certain quarterly and annual reports to the Board, senior management and regulators. This job requires an individual with a strong sense of ownership, attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Investment Accounting
- Accounting for bonds, stocks, mortgages loans, forward derivatives and private assets for all North American general account and segregated fund assets
- Monitor and track capital calls/ deals and distributions for private assets, ensure all funding wires and trade instructions for fund administrator are completed on time and accurately
- Preparation of investment notes to the consolidated financial statements annually
- Preparation of quarterly OSFI investment schedules
- Preparation of investment information for annual AM Best Questionnaire
- Completion of annual industry and regulatory surveys
Reconciliations
- Reconcile investment accounting system reports (Princeton Asset Management) to the general ledger for all North American general account and segregated fund assets, including monthly completion of investment bank and account reconciliations
- Independently investigate and resolve any discrepancies with the fund administrator in a timely manner
Investment Reporting
- Preparation of the timely and accurate reporting of investments on all of Foresters North American general account and segregated fund assets (approx. C$7 billion)
- Preparation of quarterly filing of LICAT credit risk and market risk
- Assist with the preparation of quarterly investment report for the Chief Investment Officer
- Preparation of various quarterly reports for senior management
Other
- Preparation of the quarterly investment file for the data warehouse
- Responsible for preparing wires for settled forward contracts and responding to margin calls from counterparties
- Work closely with the Manager to enhance department efficiency through process automation
- Develop and maintain up-to-date process documentation including key controls in the department
- Assist with operational onboarding of new investment managers
- Support day-to-day operations and participate in special projects as required
Key Qualifications
- University degree major in Accounting and professional accounting designation (CPA)
- 5 – 7 years of related industry experience
- Understanding of the markets and investment products available on various securities exchanges
- Experience in a life insurance/financial institution investment back office is an asset
- Detail-oriented, able to manage several complex process/tasks with a high level of accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and establish priorities to meet tight deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships between other functional areas
- Strong team orientation
- Advanced Excel skills and comfortable learning new systems
- Proven ability to work independently to solve problems/achieve goals, seek advice of others proactively, including best practices in the industry
- Demonstrated commitment to strong client service
