About the role

Job Description Under the direction of the Supervisor, Aquatics & Fitness, the Aquatic Lead is responsible for the day to day operations of the Aquatic portfolio including the safety and supervision of programs and facilities. The Aquatic Lead is accountable for coaching, mentoring and development of Casual/Seasonal/Sessional Aquatic staff and volunteers and providing exceptional customer service in an Aquatic setting. This position will support staff and volunteers with onboarding including interviewing and recommending for hire, orienting, training, qualification monitoring as applicable.

Job Requirements

  • Post secondary Diploma in the recreation field combined with progressive experience in recreation programming for all ages and abilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Current holder of Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor, National Lifeguard Award and Standard First Aid and CPR-C.

  • Completed or be working towards National Lifeguard Instructor or Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer an asset.

  • Certified Pool Operator, Supervision Evaluation and Enhancement (SEE) Auditor and Lifesaving Examiner status an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in recruitment, coaching, mentoring, supervising and training staff in an Aquatic setting.

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to deal effectively and courteously with a diversity of staff, general public, program participants and user groups.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise sound judgement while maintaining composure regardless of the demands of the Aquatic environment.

  • Working knowledge of various computer systems related to report preparation, spreadsheet applications, graphics, registration systems, contract development, financial reconciliation, scheduling systems and Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings and the ability to interpret legislation such as Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Employment Standards Act.

  • Class G Driver’s Licence in good standing and a reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.

  • Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.

  • Availability/flexibility to attend, work, and organize evening/weekend meetings and events.
