MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELLOR – OPEN COMPETITION
About the role
Job Purpose The School Mental Health Counsellor at Kitaskinaw Education Authority (KEA) is responsible for promoting and supporting the mental, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being of students. Grounded in culturally responsive and trauma-informed practice, the counsellor provides both preventative and responsive mental health services across KEA schools. The position includes one-on-one counselling, group support, classroom education, and community collaboration, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous values, culture, and healing practices.
Education, Experience And Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Social Work, or a related mental health field.
- Registered (or eligible for registration) with a recognized professional association (e.g., RSW, CCC, RPsych).
- Experience working with children and youth in Indigenous school or community settings.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerability Sector and Child Welfare Intervention Check is required.
- Certification in suicide intervention (ASIST), Mental Health First Aid, or crisis response is an asset
- Experience with land-based healing, ceremony, or traditional knowledge systems is an asset .
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and strength-based counselling approaches.
- Cultural awareness and commitment to Indigenous education and wellness frameworks.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (access to reliable transportation preferred).
- Familiarity with Jordan’s Principle and wraparound service models is an asset
Working Conditions
Will be required to work at either of the Enoch Cree Nation Kitaskinaw Education Authority Buildings for an 8-hour shift in accordance to the ECN Human Resource Policy & Procedure Manual – Section C. May be required to work after hours and during weekends.
