Position Description: Responsible for the management of federal, state, local, employee and employer payroll taxes both domestic and international.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing: Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees, including salaries, wages, ESOP, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Compliance: Maintain compliance with federal and provincial regulations regarding payroll, tax filings, and employee benefits.
  • Reporting: Prepare and submit various payroll reports, including summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, and leave balances.
  • Prepare Journal Entries as needed
  • System Management: Manage and optimize payroll systems and software to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and train a team of payroll administrators, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Problem-Solving: Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues promptly.
  • Year-End Activities: Prepare year-end tax slips and forms, ensuring all government filings are completed on time.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the confidentiality of employee payroll information and adhere to legal and ethical standards.
  • Account Reconciliation: Reconcile payroll liability accounts, bank statements, and year end reporting (including T4 preparation).
  • Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in payroll processing.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address payroll issues.
  • Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact with employees, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team, providing clear direction and support.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in payroll software and systems, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.

Experience and Education

  • Experience: Five years of experience in Canadian payroll management or a related field.
  • Education: A degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is often preferred. Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) can be advantageous.
