Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education (MB Standards)
  • Completion of a recognized medical terminology course or program , level I and II (or equivalent)
  • Two (2) years of experience in a hospital or clinic setting
  • One (1) year experience in scheduling patient’s procedure/tests
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) applications applicable to a hospital setting including ADT, Clinical Systems and Electronic Health Record Documentation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility to facilitate changes in techniques and procedures in a changing environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position
  • Demonstrated communication skills

Position Summary The Clerk IV- Preoperative Assessment Clinic (POAC) strives to provide the highest possible standard for patients, public, medical and hospital staff. The Clerk IV- POAC is responsible for providing clerical support to the POAC clinic, scheduling patients for appointments within the POAC clinic as well as registering patients for Surgical Services or treatment which is to be delivered within the Surgical Suite setting.

Responsibilities Overview:

  • Registers patients as they arrive to the Surgical Suite as well as any patients who are being seen in the Preoperative assessment Clinic (POAC).
  • Maintains accurate information of patient demographics, admission/discharge/transfer information in the ADT system.
  • Retrieves and returns health records as required.
  • Receives OR surgical bookings from Surgeons offices. Reviews bookings for completeness before processing.
  • Utilizes the SIMS (CPM) scheduling system. Enters date Booking received and assigns a CASE # for each booking.
  • Sorts and places received OR bookings in designated color file folder based on diagnosis and priority of surgical booking.
  • Schedules patients for anesthesia consults and Preoperative teaching as required.
  • Maintains patient charts and assembles after patient discharged from area according to correct charting sequence.
  • Completes and mails letters for patients who require pre-op work to be redone. Monitors for return pre-op work and places in patient chart for review, communicates to appropriate staff once received.
  • Orders department supplies and forms as required.
  • Communicates to patients and families.
  • Other duties as assigned.
