As the Design and Drafting Technician, you will coordinate the drafting of street light projects being administered and constructed by the City of Calgary, in accordance with standards, guidelines, policies, a high degree of analysis and professional discretion with the use of specialized civil engineering computer aided design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation. You will perform the following tasks:

  • Advanced drafting services to establish utility line assignment and attribute asset design of the road and the road right of way into ArcGIS using MicroStation, AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Coordinate with various internal and external parties to fix light outage issues using the work management system caused by the fiber and 5G project.
  • Oversee the construction drawings being prepared by internally and by the wireless service providers assigned to the fiber and 5G projects.
  • Develop and modify new and current methods and processes to make the design process more efficient and to give other departments (i.e. survey and drafting) compatible information as required due to evolving technology.
  • Work with wireless service providers to provide efficient drafting and surveying of fiber and 5G projects and to ensure streetlights are operational in this joint use project.

Qualifications

  • A completed 2 year diploma in an Engineering Design and Drafting field.
  • At least 5 years of streetlight drafting and design experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation is required.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS is required.
  • Excellent communication with strong attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to collaborate with multiple interested parties and respond to multiple and conflicting priorities are essential.

Working Conditions: Office environment with regular field inspection work.

  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $44.76 - 59.84 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a

5 day work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35-hour work week
