As an Engineering Business Strategist, you will plan and deliver strategic engineering and business improvement projects, analysis, and support initiatives, and coordinate efforts to implement and sustain the Corporate Project Management Framework (CPMF). Primary duties include:

  • Develop and lead strategic engineering and business improvement projects, analysis and change management strategies within the Infrastructure Services department.
  • Develop plans, standards, specifications, and guidance documentation to assist Project Engineers in the planning, risk management, engineering and design, construction, commissioning, transition to operations and closeout of a variety of projects.
  • Research industry best practices for current activities or new initiatives related to project management, engineering and design, commissioning, inspections, operations and maintenance practices and technologies
  • Provide direction on existing business processes, practices and methodologies to ensure the successful implementation and integration of Information Technology (IT) and Information Management (IM) projects and initiatives into the business unit.
  • Provide expert project management advice and guidance to the Project Management Network.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Engineering and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Experience must include project management, change management, and strategic business planning.
  • A professional designation such as a Project Management Professional (PMP) will be considered an asset.
  • Leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring experience will also be considered an asset.
  • You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated consulting and negotiation skills and the ability to influence to build consensus.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with sound judgement and proven decision-making skills.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
