What You Will Do What You Will Do: GFT is seeking a Design Technologist, Roadway to join ourTransportation team in Toronto, ON. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.

What You’ll Be Challenged To Do As a Design Technologist with GFT’s Transportation Practice in Toronto, you’ll be a key contributor to multidisciplinary teams focused on the planning and design of modern roadway and highway infrastructure. Your work will support transformative projects that enhance mobility, sustainability, and safety within communities.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to deliver preliminary and detailed designs for transportation infrastructure projects.
- Utilize industry-leading digital tools such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and InRoads/OpenRoads to produce high-quality 2D and 3D design documentation.
- Participate in the digital transformation of roadway design by contributing to model-based design deliverables and intelligent engineering workflows.
- Prepare engineering layouts, sketches, and technical drawings to support all stages of design development.
- Contribute to cost estimating efforts through the preparation of material quantity takeoffs.
- Support proposal development, feasibility studies, and other technical documentation with clear, concise technical writing.
Education | Experience:
What You Will Bring To Our Firm
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or a degree in Civil Engineering.
- 1 to 5 years of relevant experience, including internships or co-op placements in roadway, transportation, or transit design.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Bentley MicroStation InRoads/OpenRoads.
- Ability to develop accurate, detailed engineering drawings and models using digital design platforms.
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to solving engineering problems.
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—and the ability to contribute meaningfully to team discussions and deliverables.
- Self-motivation and initiative to manage tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
What We Prefer You Bring
- Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation in Ontario or eligibility to obtain it.
- Practical understanding of highway geometric design principles, grading, and drainage.
- Familiarity with municipal and provincial transportation design standards (e.g., MTO, TAC).
- Exposure to 3D modeling for visualization, clash detection, or model-based design (MBD) workflows.
- Interest in digital innovation and continuous improvement of design processes.
Compensation Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
