About the role

A highly respected Canadian non-profit organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead the accounting team, ensuring the integrity of financial data, compliance with funding agreements and adherence to accounting standards and regulations. Reporting to the Vice-President of Finance & Programs, the role plays a key part in the financial operations of the agency, working closely with the finance team, program managers, external auditors and funding partners. This is an initial 8 month term with possibility of transition to permanent status after the contact.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the day to day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting including internal dashboards and funder specific reports.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and coordinate the annual external audit and financial reviews.
  • Track and report on the financial performance of funded programs.
  • Collaborate with program staff to prepare budgets, monitor expenditures and ensure financial compliance.
  • Maintain funder reporting schedules and ensure timely and accurate submission of financial reports.
  • Supervise and support accounting staff including training, mentoring and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, professional development and collaboration within the finance team.

The successful candidate has:

  • A professional accounting designation.
  • Strong technical skills in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Strong communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience within non-profit sector with government-funded programs.
  • Proven experience in fund accounting and managing multi-source funding.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Account Edge, Sage, Quickbooks and Microsoft Excel.
  • The ability to communicate effectively across a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently with strong time management and organizational skills.

Compensation and benefits:

  • The salary range is $80,000 to $95,000 depending on experience.
