Taproom Cook Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Food Preparation & Cooking
  • Prepare and cook all menu items according to established recipes and standards.

  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and temperature control to prevent contamination.

  • Maintain consistency in flavor, portioning, and plating.

  • Adhere to allergen protocols and dietary restrictions as needed.

  1. Kitchen Operations
  • Set up and stock stations with all necessary supplies and ingredients.

  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and correctly.

  • Follow proper cleaning and sanitization procedures before, during, and after shifts.

  • Assist in daily prep and routine cleaning tasks.

  1. Taproom Operations & Support
  • Proactively support taproom operations during non-peak hours or slower periods.

  • Assist with general cleaning and organization.

  • Assist with cash handling duties and understand how to operate the point-of-sale (POS) system.

  • Greet and assist customers as needed.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the brewery’s beer offerings including styles, flavours, and ingredients.

  • Maintain a helpful, team-first attitude and stay engaged, even during lulls in service.

  1. Health & Safety Compliance
  • Follow all health department regulations, brewery kitchen safety policies, protocols.

  • Use knives, equipment, and tools with appropriate caution and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when required.

  • Maintain safe working conditions by keeping floors dry and clutter-free to prevent slips, trips, and falls.

  • Report any hazards, injuries, or unsafe equipment immediately to kitchen leadership.

  1. Quality Control
  • Monitor all food leaving the kitchen for quality, temperature, and presentation.

  • Maintain freshness and rotate stock (FIFO – First In, First Out)

  • Minimize waste and support sustainability practices where applicable.

  1. Team Collaboration
  • Work cohesively with kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure a smooth service.

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully during all shifts.

  • Support and train new kitchen team members on safe work practices and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Previous kitchen experience preferred.

  • Food Handler’s Certification

  • ProServe

  • Familiarity with safety regulations and food sanitation standards.

  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.

  • Strong time management, multitasking, and communication skills.
