Overview
Thurber has an exciting opportunity for a Junior Environmental Engineer, Scientist, or Technologist who has a desire to work in the contaminated sites industry to join our team in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.
You will work on varied projects and develop your skills with guidance and mentorship from our senior team.
Responsibilities
- Carrying out field programs including drilling, remedial excavations, groundwater monitoring and sampling, hydrogeological testing, and soil vapour sampling;
- Coordination of environmental investigation and remediation projects;
- Assisting in the preparation of site investigation and remediation reports, including summarizing environmental data in a clear and concise manner; and
- Taking initiative to develop your skills that align with your career goals, your areas of expertise, and interests.
Qualifications
- Completion of a post-secondary program (degree or diploma) in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Technology, Geoscience, Agrology or a related field;
- Registration (or eligible for registration) with EGBC, BCIA, CAB, ASTTBC, or similar professional body;
- A commitment to working safely and promoting safety in a safety-first culture;
- Highly motivated with an ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
- Strong technical writing and computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word processing;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; and
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Desirable Assets
- Environmental sampling or monitoring experience;
- Soil sampling and classification experience;
- Familiarity with BC Contaminated Sites Regulation and/or federal environmental guidelines;
- Hydrogeology testing experience; and
- GIS skills.
Base Salary Range
- $60,000 - $75,000 per year, based on a 40-hour work week.
- The posted wage range for this position represents the range for the experience and qualifications noted in this posting.
- The offered wage may be adjusted upward for candidates whose qualifications and experience exceed those expressed in this posting.
- Candidates with less experience and qualifications may be considered at a reduced starting wage.
