Purpose:

The Ward Clerk is the initial contact for the in-patient unit and ensures clear concise communication and facilitates the flow of information with other facilities, the health care team, visitors, family members and patients. As part of a multidisciplinary team the Ward Clerk provides supportive service to patients, core nursing staff and physicians and works in cooperation with other departments within the hospital as well as other Nursing units.

Education and Training:

  • Graduate from a related Community College program

Experience:

  • Minimum of 6 months recent relevant experience required

Knowledge/Skills Ability:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency with Medical Terminology

  • Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 w.p.m.

  • Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with computerized Patient Information Systems

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite software, i.e. Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the ability to function in a multi-tasked environment

Personal Suitability:

  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
